How to Play the Cardgame Speed

Speed, also known as Spit, is a fast-paced card game that can be played with two players. The objective of the game is to get rid of all your cards before your opponent does. In this article, we’ll outline how to play the card game speed using a step-by-step format that is easy to follow.

Step 1: Set Up the Game

To set up the game, shuffle a standard deck of 52 cards and deal five cards to each player. Place the remaining cards in a stack face down between the players to create the draw pile.

Each player should also have a separate discard pile, which they will use to place cards that they can’t play.

Step 2: Start the Game

The player with the lowest card in their hand goes first. They place one of their cards face up in the middle of the table, creating a new pile.

The other player then does the same, placing one of their cards on top of the first pile. This continues back and forth, with each player taking turns placing a card on one of the piles.

Step 3: Play Cards in Sequence

Cards can only be played if they are in sequence. For example, if the top card on one of the piles is a six, the next player can play a seven or a five. Aces can be played high or low.

If a player can’t play a card, they must draw a card from the draw pile. If they still can’t play a card, they must place one of their cards face up in their discard pile and the other player continues to play.

Step 4: Go for the Spit

The game can be won by “spitting” all the cards in your hand onto the table before your opponent does. To do this, a player must be able to play their entire hand in sequence without drawing any additional cards.

If both players run out of cards in their hand and there are no cards left in the draw pile, the player with the fewest cards in their discard pile wins.

Step 5: Continue Playing

If neither player is able to “spit” their cards out, play continues until both players are unable to play any more cards. At this point, the game ends and the player with the fewest cards in their discard pile wins.

Step 6: Additional Rules

There are a few additional rules to keep in mind when playing Speed:

  • Players can use one hand to play cards and must keep their other hand behind their back.
  • If a player accidentally places a card on the wrong pile, they must immediately correct the mistake.
  • If a player runs out of cards in their hand and can’t play any more cards, they can pick up their entire discard pile and continue playing.
  • If both players place a card at the same time, the player whose hand is on top of the pile gets to continue playing.
