How to Do a Reverse French Braid

A reverse French braid, also known as a Dutch braid, is a versatile hairstyle that can be dressed up or down. This braid creates a unique look that involves braiding the hair under, rather than over, the middle section. It may seem daunting to attempt this hairstyle on your own, but with a little patience and practice, you can master it in no time. In this article, we will guide you through the steps to create a reverse French braid.

Step 1: Prepare Your Hair

Before starting the braid, make sure your hair is clean, detangled, and free from any knots or tangles. This will make the braiding process smoother and less painful. Brush your hair thoroughly to remove any knots and apply a leave-in conditioner to smooth your hair.

Step 2: Divide Your Hair

Next, divide your hair into three equal sections at the crown of your head. Hold the left section in your left hand, the right section in your right hand, and the middle section in between your fingers.

Step 3: Begin Braiding

Start braiding by crossing the left section of hair under the middle section. Then, take the right section of hair and cross it under the middle section, placing it on the left side. Now, you have completed one full stitch of the reverse French braid.

Step 4: Add More Hair

To create the reverse French braid, add more hair to each section as you braid. To do this, take a small section of hair from the left side of your head and add it to the left section of hair in your left hand. Then, cross this newly combined section of hair under the middle section.

Repeat this process on the right side by taking a small section of hair from the right side of your head and adding it to the right section of hair in your right hand. Then, cross this newly combined section of hair under the middle section, placing it on the left side.

Step 5: Continue Braiding

Continue braiding your hair by adding more hair to each section as you go along. Be sure to keep the braid tight and close to your scalp. When you reach the nape of your neck, stop adding hair to the braid and simply continue braiding the rest of the hair until you reach the ends.

Step 6: Secure the Braid

Once you have completed the reverse French braid, secure the end of the braid with a hair tie. You can also use bobby pins to secure any loose strands or flyaways.

Step 7: Style the Braid

Finally, style your braid as desired. You can wear your hair in a high ponytail, low bun, or leave it down. You can also add hair accessories like clips or headbands to accentuate your braid.

Conclusion:

Creating a reverse French braid may seem like a daunting task, but with practice, you will be able to master it in no time. Follow the steps outlined in this article and remember to take your time and be patient. With a little effort, you can create a beautiful and unique hairstyle that will turn heads wherever you go.
